Bursaries: Criteria for Employees

OBJECTIVES
The departmental bursary policy seeks to ensure that the principles embodied in the Skills Development Act 97 of 1998 are adhered to. Create opportunities for staff members in the department to further their development through part-time studies in order to improve both the individual and organizational performance. The bursary scheme caters for courses that are deemed to be in the interest of the state and the department in terms of improving the individual performance of tasks on the job.

CONDITIONS OF THE BURSARY
Bursaries will be granted to serving employees, and traditional leaders for the duration of their studies , provided the amount granted does not exceed the cost of tuition, registration and examination fees for the maximum number of courses recommended by the tertiary institutions concerned .



CRITERIA FOR AWARDING BURSARIES
The field of study for which a bursary be awarded to an applicant must be aligned to the Strategic Objectives of the department and the individual `s Personal Development Plan. All bursaries will be awarded to employees who have served the department for at least one year, i.e. completed probation period.



TIME FOR APPLICATIONS

From 1 October to 30 November every year.
